The DIY Products We Recommend

All the products listed below have affiliate links which don't change the price for you, but give us a small commission if you go through with the purchase!

Meguiar's Car Wash Soap

As far as consumer grade affordable car soaps go Meguiar's has some great options. To keep it ceramic safe we recommend getting the Gold Class one.

CarCarez Wash Microfiber Towels

These will be the microfibers that you will be using for the wash, therefore, we needed some that had a bit more fluff than a typical microfiber towel. That's why we went with the ones from CarCarez.

3D Bug Remover

The Bug Remover from 3D is a great help getting bugs off of the front of your vehicle that's safe to use on all surfaces including ceramic coatings.

Griot's Tar and Sap Remover

Griots Garage is one of our main go-to's for chemicals, rags, and other detailing equipment. Their Tar and Sap remover is one of the best ones that we've tested so far, and you will be able to see the tar and sap melt away in just seconds.

Griot's Wheel, Tire, and Mat Cleaner

Wheels and tires can get very dirty, so this product from Griot's Garage is the extra step to remove any more dirt that the initial Meguiar's wash might have missed. This along with the wheel brush is bound to take layers of dirt off that you couldn't even see was there.

Chemical Guys Wheel Brush

For the tires especially we don't recommend using the microfibers, as they can hide tons of dirt and ruin the microfibers. Instead we recommend using a brush just like this one to scrub and really clean the wheels.

Cobee Detailing Brush Set

For all nooks and crannies of the exterior of your car (especially the front grill and side windows) it is very nice to have a good array of brushes to be able to easily reach and clean every surface.

The Rag Company Microfiber Towels

If you want high quality microfibers for touching things up or cleaning small spots we recommend this pack of 10 edgeless microfibers from The Rag Company.

The Rag Company Large Drying Towel

The Rag Company is known for making some of the best drying towels that you can buy, and we can confirm that. This is the larger variant if you like larger drying towels compared to multiple smaller ones.

The Rag Company Drying Towels

Optionally you could get this 3 pack of towels from The Rag Company instead of the single large towel for about the same price, it's just up to personal preference.

The Wash Process with those Products

  1. 1

    Set Up

Put 4-5oz (a liberal amount) of Meguiar's Gold Class Soap into a bucket and then fill the bucket about halfway with water. Then put all the microfibers in the bucket as well.

  2. 2

    Initial Rinse

Use your hose to give your car a good rinse, this will get all large contaminants off of the car as well as wets down the vehicle for the next steps. If you plan on using the 3D Bug Remover or Griots Tar and Sap Remover, read the instructions on how to use them and use it here.

  3. 3

    Wash the car

Grab a microfiber out of the bucket and fold it in 1/4ths (2 folds), then go panel by panel folding the towel to a new side each time you move to the next one. You should get about 8 panels per towel.

  4. 4

    Scrub Wheels

Make sure to use the Wheel Brush and spray on the Griot's Wheel, Tire and Mat cleaner to really remove any tough to remove dirt. You can use the smaller brushes to reach into smaller grooves like the lug nuts if needed.

  5. 5

    Final Rinse

Rinse off the entire vehicle. Make sure to get in all the cracks where smaller debris likes to get stuck, and try to leave no soap behind.

  6. 6

    Enhance and Dry

Give about 2-3 sprays of Griots Ceramic Speed Shine per panel, and use your preferred drying towel to completely dry off the car. And you're done!
